Oct 14, 2026, reported by Primera Hora
In Puerto Rico, 25-year-old John Alexander Santos Colón, a resident of Juana Díaz, faces criminal charges for an alleged fraud scheme related to vehicle sales advertised on social media. Santos Colón was accused of violating articles 202(b) for fraud and 182 for aggravated illegal appropriation of the Puerto Rico Penal Code. According to the Criminal Investigations Corps’ (CIC) Property Division in Ponce, the victim contacted Santos Colón on February 17, 2026, after seeing a social media ad for a vehicle sale.
The victim gave Santos Colón $6,000 as part of the transaction but did not receive the vehicle or a refund. Later, on February 25, 2026, the victim gave Santos Colón an additional $4,100 to buy a second vehicle, promised to be delivered the next day in Caguas. However, by the time of the investigation, the victim had not received the vehicles or the $10,100 paid.
The case was reviewed by prosecutor Jorge Martínez, who instructed the filing of corresponding charges. The evidence was presented to Judge Ginny Vélez Carreras of the Ponce Tribunal, who found probable cause for arrest and set a $12,000 bond. Since Santos Colón did not post the imposed bond, he was booked and returned to the Las Cucharas Correctional Complex in Ponce. The charges are subject to the corresponding judicial process.
