Over a dozen families in Cataño have been affected by extraordinarily high tides since August 8, causing water to enter residences, damage to belongings, and temporary road closures, according to Luis Acosta, director of the Municipal Office for Emergency Management (OMME). The most significant complications have been reported on Amparo Street and Atalaya Street, where water reached the interior of some homes.

Acosta stated that the episode began on Saturday, August 8, mainly during the afternoon and night, when the tide level increases. The Municipality has been providing assistance, including documenting damage, delivering water and food to affected residents, particularly the elderly and those with mobility issues.

Some older adults have chosen to remain in their homes due to their attachment to the community.
