Puerto Rico, today

Full briefing

Today, news emerged of several developments across various sectors in Puerto Rico. A lawsuit filed by Longo En Tech de Puerto Rico, LLC, against the AAA alleges fraud in contract awards for projects under federal monitoring. This lawsuit is just one of several issues plaguing the AAA, as an audit of the State Insurance Fund, also known as the Fondo del Seguro del Estado (CFSE), revealed deficiencies, including unauthorized investments and unregistered investment advisors.

In other news, Puerto Rican saxophonist Miguel Zenón is bringing his educational initiative, 'Jazz en las escuelas' (Jazz in Schools), to the island. The program aims to formally teach jazz in schools. On the economic front, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for Puerto Rico's manufacturing sector saw a slight increase to 54.1 in June, up 1.7 points from the previous month's 52.4.

Additionally, after over a decade of litigation, the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Puerto Rico ordered the closure of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy case of Instituto Médico del Norte, also known as Wilma N. Vázquez Hospital.
