El Puente Puerto Rico is hosting its 8th Caminata Puerto Rico ante el Cambio Climático on October 24 in Río Piedras, where the organization is based. The event's central theme this year is integral health, focusing on the impact of global warming on physical and emotional health, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and homeless individuals.
The event will feature a health fair with community services, informational booths from environmental organizations and universities, and a comparsa where young people and community groups will express their messages and demands for action on climate change. The route of the walk will take participants through the urban center of Río Piedras, starting and ending on Calle Robles.
The event will also include the collection of ideas for a future community mural at the Centro para la Adaptación Climática Comunitaria, located at the organization's headquarters. According to Federico Cintrón Moscoso, director of El Puente Puerto Rico, the goal is to raise awareness and promote action on climate change, while also providing a space for the community to learn, care for themselves, and demand change.
Diana Soto Rodríguez, associate director of El Puente Puerto Rico, emphasized the importance of collective action in finding solutions to the problems facing the country.
