Ceiba Project Aims to Remove Carbon and Restore Puerto Rico's Coasts
The ISER Caribe organization, with the support of Carbon180, is promoting a pilot project in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, to cultivate mangroves as a means of removing carbon and restoring the island’s coasts. This initiative is part of the ‘blue carbon’ project, which seeks to utilize the natural ability of mangroves to absorb and store carbon dioxide. The project aims to not only mitigate the effects of climate change but also to restore and preserve the coastal ecosystems of Puerto Rico. By cultivating mangroves, the project hopes to remove significant amounts of carbon from the atmosphere, thus contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The collaboration between ISER Caribe and Carbon180 is a key component of this project, bringing together expertise and resources to tackle the critical issue of climate change in Puerto Rico. The project’s success could have significant implications for the island’s environmental conservation efforts and its ability to address the challenges posed by climate change.
