Puerto Rico is expected to experience another hot day on Wednesday, with heat indices potentially surpassing 100 degrees Fahrenheit, amidst a projection of below-normal rainfall for the remainder of August. Meteorologist María Novoa from the National Meteorological Service (SNM) issued a heat warning from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for coastal and urban areas, advising people to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and wear light clothing.
Novoa also warned that children, older adults, and pets are more vulnerable to high temperatures. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a 50% or higher probability of below-average rainfall in the Caribbean region until the end of August.
A new pulse of Saharan dust is expected to arrive over the weekend, with moderate concentrations initially, potentially increasing to high levels by Sunday. Wind and wave heights are also expected to increase in the coming days.
