Social Stigmas Affect Mental Health of New Parents in Puerto Rico
A new study in Puerto Rico found that first-time fathers in the archipelago experience anxiety and social pressure after the arrival of their children. The situation is complicated by the fact that many do not seek help due to social and cultural stigmas. According to the study, these stigmas affect the mental health of new parents, with many feeling the need to provide for their families and be present for their children, but struggling to balance these responsibilities. The study highlights the importance of addressing these issues to support the well-being of new parents in Puerto Rico. The research aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by new parents and the need for a support system to help them cope with the pressures of parenthood. The study’s findings are based on data collected from new fathers in Puerto Rico, who reported feeling anxious and pressured to provide for their families.
