The Puerto Rico delegation won three team trophies and 17 medals at the Pan American U-20 Wrestling Championship, organized by the United World Wrestling (UWW). The national team took third place in men's freestyle wrestling, behind the United States and Canada, and won the Pan American team championship in both men's and women's beach wrestling.
Obed Santana Acosta, president of the Puerto Rico Associated Wrestling Federation (FLAPR), highlighted that this performance represents one of the best international results achieved by a Puerto Rican youth delegation. The tournament served as preparation for several team members who will compete in the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, including Jania Dunigan, Paola Rodríguez, Aneishka Santos, and Juan Eli Díaz.
Santana Acosta expressed pride in the achievements, stating that they confirm the future of Puerto Rican wrestling is in good hands. The results reflect the work of the National High Performance Program and strengthen the generational relay of Puerto Rican wrestling.
