The Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTOP) has reactivated its inspection of vehicle inspection centers, with 268 centers visited over the past two months, according to Marcos García, the agency's auxiliary secretary. García confirmed that some observations and concerns were raised during the inspections, which will require further investigation.
we trained all the personnel and made the necessary reforms and started on the street
The inspections had been halted since July 2025, but resumed after Ángel Reyes took over as director of the Office of Investigations and Inspection in December of that year. García stated that the office has 34 investigators and has provided new training and manuals for employees.
The Office of Investigations and Inspection had been under public scrutiny due to allegations of mismanagement in the issuance of marbetes, including those made by former director Arturo Deliz Vélez. The DTOP has made adjustments to its procedures and has begun conducting inspections again, with García saying 'we trained all the personnel and made the necessary reforms and started on the street',
