Puerto Rican boxer Juan 'Juancito' Zayas made a triumphant return to the ring, defeating American Clayton Ward by unanimous decision at the Coliseo Rubén Rodríguez in Bayamón. The judges scored the fight 58-56, 58-56, and 59-55 in favor of Zayas, who improved his record to 14-1-1 with 10 wins by knockout. Zayas, trained by Emilio 'Millo' Lozada, was cautious in the early rounds but became more aggressive in the third, connecting with two combinations that sent Ward back.
Ward responded, but Zayas continued to use his right hand effectively and targeted Ward's body in the fifth round, landing two hooks that hurt the American. In the final round, Ward tried to finish strong, but Zayas avoided exchanging punches after injuring his hand. Zayas said he was grateful for the victory and the time off to enjoy his newborn daughter, stating 'things happen for a reason' and that he had learned to prioritize his family.
The fight was part of the 'Noche de Campeones' event organized by Universal Promotions.
