Corrections Policy
Accuracy is the point of this site. When a story is wrong, we fix it and we say that we fixed it.
How to Report an Error
Use the contact form and choose "Correction / factual error". Include the link to the story and what is wrong; a link to the source that shows it helps. Every message is read, and we reply within 24 hours. You can also write to hello@787daily.com.
Factual Errors
When a story states something that is wrong, or that its source did not say, we correct the text and add a note at the end of the story that says what changed and when, in this form: "Corrected October 2: an earlier version said …". The story's date line then reads "Updated" with the date of the correction. We do not quietly rewrite a fact.
Spelling, Style and Clarity
Fixes that do not change a fact — a typo, a clumsy sentence, a broken format — are made without a note. The story's "Updated" date still changes.
When the Source Changes or Retracts
Our summaries follow the outlets' reporting. If an outlet corrects its story, we correct our summary the same way, with a note when a fact changed. If an outlet retracts or withdraws a story, we take our summary down.
When a Correction Can't Fix It
If the core of a story is wrong, so that no correction can make it right, we take it down. A take-down leaves a short note at the story's old address that says it was removed and why.
Our Own Reporting
The same rules apply to 787daily's own analysis and reporting.
Who Decides
Every correction of fact is approved by the site's editor before it runs. An automated copy editor rereads published stories and flags possible errors for the editor; how we use automation is described on How we work.
