How We Work
787daily brings Puerto Rico's Spanish-language news to English readers, and AI helps us do it. We would rather tell you that plainly than have you guess. This page says what AI does on this site, what it does not do, and how the work is checked.
News Summaries and Translation
Most stories on 787daily are English summaries of articles first reported in Spanish by Puerto Rico's newsrooms. Most outlet summaries are drafted with AI and checked by our rules; some are written or edited by hand. A drafted summary, its "At a glance" points and its "Why this matters" line are checked for faithfulness to the original and for being about Puerto Rico; one that fails is held back rather than published. Every summary names the outlet, links to the original, and says the reporting is theirs.
Our Own Reports
Our recurring data reports, such as the water, power and weekend reports, are drafted with AI from public records and official data, with every figure taken from and attributed to its source. Longer pieces labelled "By 787 Daily" are reported and edited by the site's editor, who may use AI tools for drafting and translation.
Checking the Work
An automated copy editor rereads published stories for errors, duplicates and style problems and flags them to the site's editor, who decides on corrections. Routine fixes it has a proven record on may be made automatically; factual corrections carry a visible note, as set out in our corrections policy. AI can make mistakes. If you see one, tell us.
Elsewhere on the Site
- The Morning Brief and podcast are written from our published stories with AI help and read aloud by a synthesized voice.
- Ask answers questions with AI from our own published stories and guides.
- Images. We use only images that are credited, licensed or in the public domain. Story cards are made from the headline.
What AI Does Not Do Here
- It does not invent reporting: a summary contains only what its source reported.
- It is not presented as a person. There are no made-up reporters or profiles on this site.
- It does not decide what this page, our standards or our corrections policy say. People do.
