Political analyst Jay Fonseca discussed on his program "Los Datos Son Los Datos" with Abel Vale, of the group Ciudadanos del Karso, about House Bill 1079, introduced by House Speaker Carlos "Johnny" Méndez, which seeks to amend Puerto Rico’s Karst Law. Vale explained that the current law requires government agencies to conduct investigations and rely on data before making determinations regarding the karst region.
He said the bill proposed by Méndez includes a series of amendments that would permit development and construction in the karst zone. Vale warned that the karst region contains the largest and most productive aquifers on the island, raising concerns about the potential impact of loosening these protections.
