Over 70 legislators from Puerto Rico, the United States, and other countries condemned extrajudicial executions in the Caribbean. In a statement, they opposed the US government's attacks on small boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, resulting in hundreds of civilian executions.
The statement, signed by legislators from 13 countries, including Puerto Rico's María de Lourdes Santiago and Adriana Gutiérrez, as well as US Congress members Nydia Velázquez and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, demanded an end to these operations. The signatories also included parliamentarians from Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador, Honduras, Canada, Argentina, Guatemala, Peru, Mexico, and Paraguay.
Since September 2025, the Pentagon has ordered the extrajudicial execution of at least 234 people on boats in the Caribbean and Pacific with alleged drug cargoes. The statement noted that The Washington Post reported the CIA has carried out covert maritime attacks on fishing boats, with no evidence that the targets posed an imminent threat justifying lethal force.
