The first edition of 'Clown Cosmos', a festival featuring international clown artists, will take place in Puerto Rico from October 14 to 18. The event, led by artist and cultural manager Chicle Clown through the Fundación Corazón Elástico, aims to broaden the traditional view of clowns and showcase contemporary clowning's multiple currents and applications.
Jorge Iván Latorre Robles, also a comedian and breaking dancer, explained that the festival seeks to demonstrate how clowning can serve as a vehicle for human connection, emotional expression, and social transformation. The five-day event will include theatrical performances and workshops led by artists from different countries, such as Hillary Chaplain from the US, Barnaby King from the UK, and Carcocha from Chile.
Puerto Rican artist Jean Claudio will also participate, presenting the piece 'Memorabilia', which addresses themes like grief, illness, and family bonds. Chicle Clown, with nearly 15 years of experience in community work as a clown, believes the festival responds to a need for artistic training on the island, bringing international resources and experiences to Puerto Rico.
