The Panel on the Independent Special Prosecutor (FEI) issued a resolution expanding its ongoing investigation into former officials of the Office of Permit Management (OGPe) and others. The expansion was requested by special prosecutors Fabiola Acarén Porrata-Doria, Ileana Agudo Calderón and Arcelio A.
Maldonado Avilés II, who said evidence gathered from witness testimony requires broadening the probe to determine whether Roberto Lefranc Fortuño, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce (DDEC), bears any criminal responsibility for acts contrary to the law. The prosecutors stated the requested expansion is intrinsically related to their original assignment.
Citing Article 11 of Law No. 2-1988, as amended, known as the Independent Special Prosecutor Panel Law, the Panel authorized the request. Because this is an ongoing investigation handled by assigned special prosecutors, the Panel said it will not issue further statements on the matter.
