The number of women working in Puerto Rico's construction sector has increased, with 6,280 women employed in 2025, a 5.0% rise from the previous year. According to the US Census Bureau's Quarterly Workforce Indicators (QWI) for the third quarter of 2026, women's employment in the sector has grown, but labor rotation signals persist.
In the second quarter of 2025, there were 647 hires of women in construction, a 1.3% increase from the same quarter the previous year. Puerto Rico is among the jurisdictions with the largest increases in female hires in the sector, along with Mississippi and Oklahoma.
However, the island also saw a significant increase in female layoffs, with 590 reported in the second quarter of 2025, a 14.5% rise from the previous year.
