A 20-year-old man, Rubén J. Velázquez Rivera, was arrested and jailed for allegedly physically assaulting his partner in Río Piedras. According to the police, the incident occurred on September 26 at around 8:45 am, when Velázquez Rivera found messages on his partner's cell phone and began to argue, eventually hitting her on the head and face with both hands, causing bruises and an open wound, and also allegedly biting her on the right arm.
The victim required medical attention at the Sabana Abajo CDT, where she was treated by the on-duty doctor. Velázquez Rivera was charged under Law 54 for the Prevention and Intervention of Domestic Violence and was imposed a $40,000 bail, which he did not pay, leading to his arrest and imprisonment at the Bayamón Correctional Complex. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a later date.
