A shooting occurred near a Head Start center in Santurce, San Juan, at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The center, operated by the Red por los Derechos de la Niñez y Juventud, activated its security protocols and provided support to children and families. A 44-year-old man, identified as Alex Rivera Vida, was shot in the abdomen and taken to the Centro Médico de Río Piedras, where his condition is reported as delicate.
Rivera Vida has a prior criminal record for aggression and gender violence in 2008 and 2017. The incident is under investigation, with eight bullet casings found at the scene. The president of the Red por los Derechos de la Niñez y Juventud, Marcos Santa, expressed deep concern about the violence affecting the community and offered support services to those affected. Fortunately, the children and staff at the Head Start center were not harmed.
