The Puerto Rican interdisciplinary arts collective Y No Había Luz, presented by Arte y Maña and supported by the Maniobra initiative of the Centro de Economía Creativa, will host an intensive mask-making workshop in San Juan from October 17 to 22. The 21-hour workshop, titled 'Construcción de Máscaras,' will provide hands-on instruction and experimentation focused on masks as artistic objects and theatrical tools.
Participants will explore the creative process, from concept development to construction, painting, and finishing, and will have the opportunity to experiment with materials and explore their creations through movement and theatrical space. The workshop is open to people with previous artistic experience and those interested in exploring mask-making for the first time, and will help participants understand how a mask can become a theatrical presence, character, or performance tool.
Y No Había Luz has over two decades of experience in interdisciplinary artistic practice, combining theater, masks, puppetry, visual arts, movement, and collective creation.
