Ciencia Puerto Rico (CienciaPR) will establish a physical headquarters at the Parque de las Ciencias in Bayamón under an agreement with TV Educational Park Management LLC. The goal is to develop workshops, science fairs, and other educational activities using the STEAM approach (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). CienciaPR executive director Greetchen Díaz said in written statements that an in-person base will help advance goals in the organization's new strategic plan, including community 'hubs' where scientists, educators, students, and community members can co-create and share power in producing knowledge.
According to Díaz, the Bayamón space will be the first community center of its kind established by the organization. The agreement includes a joint agenda of events, workshops, science fairs, and interactive educational experiences aimed at children, youth, and families, combining science with art and music. CienciaPR board chair Jorge Colón said pairing CienciaPR's educational experience and network of experts with the park's infrastructure creates a unique platform for promoting science in Puerto Rico.
CienciaPR is also part of the newly created Network of Museums and Science and Technology Centers of Puerto Rico, an initiative it founded with other entities to promote collaboration and strengthen science education. Toro Verde Parks president Jorge Jorge said adding CienciaPR will broaden the park's educational offerings.
