Published Oct 1, 2026 · via Primera Hora

The municipality of Manatí, located on Puerto Rico's north coast, offers a mix of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and historical significance. According to Sandra Vega González, Director of Cultural Affairs and Tourism, Manatí's beaches are among the best in the area, with Mar Chiquita being a notable example. The area is also home to the Cueva de las Golondrinas, a cave with archeological value featuring petroglifos that evidence the presence of the island's first inhabitants.

The Hacienda La Esperanza nature reserve, a former 19th-century sugar plantation, boasts mogotes, pastures, wetlands, and the mouth of the Grande de Manatí river, as well as an ancient casona and a unique steam-powered trapiche. Other attractions include the Poza de las Mujeres, a natural pool where only high-society women could bathe in the 17th and 18th centuries, and the Las Palmas beach, which features natural rock pools. A freshwater spring is also hidden near the Tortuguero lagoon in the Guayaney neighborhood.
