Puerto Rico's Secretary of Transportation and Public Works, Edwin González, has signed an order to register Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) and grant them license plates. Misael González Trinidad, also known as 'Rey Charlie', celebrated the decision on his Facebook account, saying 'Tablilla para los carritos' (License plates for the vehicles). The order instructs the directors of the Centros de Servicios al Conductor to inspect these vehicles and proceed with the registration process without delay.
This comes after a legislative measure to legalize UTVs was rejected by a Senate commission. UTVs are four-wheel, all-terrain vehicles designed for difficult terrain and heavy work or recreational activities. The order has immediate effect and aims to avoid unjustified interruptions in the process that affect dealers and owners of these vehicles.
