In Puerto Rico, Governor Jenniffer González announced a legislative measure to regulate online gambling, known as 'iGaming', to fund increases in public sector retirees’ pensions. The proposed legislation, administration bill A158, would establish a legal framework for online gambling through amendments to the Puerto Rico Government Gaming Commission Law. It would also impose a tax on adjusted gross gaming revenue, with the proceeds going towards pension increases.

However, the proposal does not specify the tax rate or the amount of the pension increases. Governor González stated that the proposal links the regulation of an economic activity to a priority of her administration: attending to public sector retirees. The Gaming Commission would have oversight and coordination powers with the Department of the Treasury, the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Institutions, and other government agencies.
