Víctor Pérez Fernández, known as 'La Cone/Vitu/Vitikin/Enano' and leader of the drug-trafficking gang 'La Familia', was sentenced on Tuesday to 45 years in prison for the killing of Police sergeant Eliezer Ramos Vélez in Carolina, according to federal prosecutor spokesperson Lymarie Llovet. Judge María Antongiorgi Jordán of the federal District Court in Hato Rey imposed the sentence.
Pérez Fernández reached a guilty agreement with the federal prosecutor’s office that avoided a jury trial with a possible death sentence; the pre-agreed penalty was 29 to 34 years, and the judge added 11 more years. He accepted responsibility for conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession of an automatic weapon to promote drug trafficking, with six other counts dropped, including the death-penalty-eligible charge for the officer’s killing.
Also implicated in the sergeant’s death are urban-music artist CDobleta, whose given name is Luis Nomar Isaac Sánchez, plus Andyel González Sáez, Olvin O’neill Concepción Tapia and Daniel López Vega, who also reached guilty agreements and will be sentenced on Friday. During negotiations, the sergeant’s sister, Natalie Ramos, publicly demanded the maximum penalty. The indictment states the gang trafficked heroin, fentanyl, cocaine, marijuana, Tramadol and Clonazepam from 2021 until arrest in public housing including Sabana Abajo, Los Mirtos, Lagos de Blasina, La Esmeralda and El Coral in Carolina, and Monte Hatillo and Luis Lloréns Torres in San Juan.
