Parque Nacional Julio Enrique Monagas

An urban state park in Bayamón, established in 1993 on a former World War II military installation — bunkers and ammunition warehouses still stand among the trails. It is named for Julio Enrique Monagas, the first director of Puerto Rico's Public Recreation and Parks Commission, and the man usually credited as the father of the island's Olympic movement.

The draw for most people is the riding: dozens of singletrack trails link up with wider fire roads, and the names riders use for them are Los Picapiedras, La Babilla and Los Almendros. The main mountain-bike loop runs roughly 3.7 miles with about 425 feet of climbing. Walkers get the same network, plus picnic gazebos, playgrounds and bridle paths, and climbers are allowed on some of the limestone mogotes. Restrooms and showers are on site.

Parking was reported at $4 as of July 2026. That figure and the trail names come from riders and visitors rather than from the park authority, so treat both as current-ish rather than official. Day-to-day operations run through the Centro Ambiental Santa Ana; the park itself is managed by the Compañía de Parques Nacionales.
