The defense team of Anthonieska Avilés Cabrera, co-accused in the murder of 16-year-old Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario, has requested that the Tribunal of Aibonito delay the trial for a minimum of six months. This request comes after the Supreme Court rejected a motion to pause the trial, reclassify the first-degree murder charge as mitigated, and revoke a ruling from the Appeals Court that confirmed Avilés Cabrera's processability. The trial is currently scheduled to begin on June 23 before Judge Juan A.
Reyes Colón. Avilés Cabrera, 18, is being tried as an adult and faces two charges, including first-degree murder and violation of the Weapons Law, along with her mother, Elvia Cabrera Rivera. The prosecution recently amended the charges against Avilés Cabrera to include three aggravating circumstances, which could result in a harsher sentence if she is found guilty.
The defense team, consisting of attorneys María Soledad Sáez Matos, Rocío Revelles Ponce, and Athelyn Jiménez Emanuelli from the Sociedad para Asistencia Legal (SAL), has maintained that Avilés Cabrera is not processable.
