Ramses Meléndez, the starting forward for the Capitanes de Arecibo, was fined $2,500 and given a two-game suspension by the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) for criticizing the referees after a game against the Osos de Manatí. Meléndez expressed his frustration on social media, stating that referees should be fined and suspended for poor performances.
He also criticized José 'Pucho' Figueroa, the supervisor of referees for the game. The BSN's tournament director, Ricardo Carrillo, said that Meléndez's comments were unacceptable and that he would be suspended for two games if he repeats such behavior.
The league also fined Justin Reyes $2,500 for his actions after the game. The Capitanes, who have already qualified for the postseason, will play the Piratas de Quebradillas on Thursday.
