Updated Jun 28, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

The El Nuevo Día Soccer Blast, held at Parque Barbosa in San Juan, brought together young football players from across Puerto Rico, including Nyan Vega Ortiz from Maunabo, a bastion of Puerto Rican football. The event, organized by GFR Media and Robert Rodríguez, featured a tournament, exhibitions, and recreational activities, including basketball, volleyball, and art exhibits.

This year's edition marked the return of the Soccer Blast after a decade-long hiatus, with over 400 teams and 2,000 players participating in its first 14 editions. The event coincided with the 2026 FIFA World Cup and featured participants from various communities, including Residencial Quintana in Hato Rey.

Marilyn Pabón and Luis Millán, who participated in the event, shared their excitement and nostalgia for the tournament, which has had an impact on over 12,000 players. The Soccer Blast has become a tradition in Puerto Rican football, with many returning to the event due to its significance in their childhood.
