Homicides Rise to Eight Over the Weekend in Puerto Rico

The number of homicides in Puerto Rico over the weekend has increased to eight, with the latest incident occurring in Santurce. According to preliminary investigations, at 2:43 a.m. on Sunday, police were alerted to a person lying on the ground at the intersection of Monserrate and Del Carmen streets.

The victim, identified as 56-year-old Israel Narváez Velázquez, a resident of San Juan, was found with fatal gunshot wounds. This incident follows four reported homicides on Saturday, including a 17-year-old minor in Trujillo Alto, a 34-year-old man in Barceloneta, an unidentified person in Hato Rey, and 51-year-old Rubén Rodriguez Ocasio in Río Piedras.

The police are still working to identify three individuals killed on Friday in Arecibo and Gurabo. As of Saturday, the police had reported 241 homicides this year, 24 more than the 217 recorded at the same time in 2025.
