Call to Join the 2026 Independence March

Updated Jun 30, 2026 · via Primera Hora

A coalition of over 20 independentist organizations in Puerto Rico has called on the public to join the March for Independence 2026, scheduled for July 18. The march aims to denounce 128 years of colonial subordination and affirm the country's right to a sovereign and independent future.

Participants will gather at Plaza Colón at 2:00 p.m. and march to the Federal Tribunal in Old San Juan, where a political and cultural act will take place. The march coincides with the US celebration of 250 years of independence and will also be supported by Puerto Rican communities in the US, in cities such as New York, New Jersey, Orlando, and Cleveland.

The organizers reject the imposition of the Fiscal Control Board, which they consider a parallel government, and demand the demilitarization of the island, an end to projects that threaten access to water, coasts, and housing, and the protection of labor, women's, and LGBTTQ+ rights.
