Updated Jun 30, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

The Flamboyán Arts Fund, part of the Flamboyán Foundation, is expanding its Cultural Response Centers initiative, which aims to support and strengthen cultural organizations in Puerto Rico. As part of this effort, two community organizations in western Puerto Rico, Taller Libertá in Mayagüez and Escuela Secundaria Montessori Alejandro Tapia y Rivera in La Parguera, Lajas, have joined the network.

These centers have received support to improve their infrastructure, including solar energy systems, generators, and communication tools, to continue operating during emergencies. They also have an emergency fund to contract artists and cultural managers to maintain cultural programming as a tool for accompaniment, well-being, and healing during crisis times.

The initiative aims to ensure that residents have access to essential services and cultural activities in times of crisis. The Flamboyán Arts Fund has announced that it will host an open house at Taller Libertá in Mayagüez to showcase the center's improvements and reaffirm its commitment to organizations that play a crucial role in Puerto Rico's cultural ecosystem.
