Judge Rafael Taboas Dávila of the San Juan Tribunal found Jeremy Serrano Alicea not guilty on all charges related to the 2023 murder of two Peruvian university students, Sergio Palomino Ruiz and Franco Medina Angulo, in Santurce. The students, aged 28 and 29, were shot and killed on May 6, 2023, while waiting for an Uber outside the Emo-Y Bar & Lounge on Loíza Street.
Serrano Alicea, 26, was arrested on March 15, 2024, at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport upon arrival from Boston, Massachusetts, and faced charges including murder, attempted murder, and firearms violations. According to Jean-Carlo Pérez Nieves, spokesperson for the Office of Court Administration, the prosecution could not determine Serrano Alicea's guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The victims were students at the University of New York and had traveled to the island to celebrate a birthday.
