Elsa 'Nely' Menéndez Centeno, a 48-year-old resident of Toa Baja, has been charged with serious assault and possession and use of a bladed weapon. According to an investigation by Agent Gamalier Soto Cordero, the incident occurred on June 27 at 4:25 pm in the Levittown Lakes urbanization in Toa Baja.
Police negotiator Fernando Colón Trinidad was intervening in a situation with an aggressive mental patient when Menéndez Centeno allegedly threw a knife at him, causing a facial wound that required seven stitches. Judge Miraim M.
Srefan Acta determined probable cause for arrest and set a $200,000 bail, which Menéndez Centeno did not post, and she was taken to the Bayamón Women's Rehabilitation Complex. The investigation was conducted by agents from the Bayamón CIC.
