38 Families in Maricao Receive Property Titles

Updated Jul 2, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

María Acevedo Castillo, a victim of domestic violence, was among 38 families in Maricao who received property titles on Thursday. Acevedo Castillo, who built her home with the help of her four sons, expressed gratitude and relief, calling it a 'miracle of God'.

The titles were delivered by Governor Jenniffer González in the town's public plaza. González noted that the Department of Housing has delivered 2,177 private and public property titles so far in the current four-year term.

However, the government has acknowledged that some properties are located in flood-prone or disaster-susceptible areas, and federal assistance for these families is limited. Acevedo Castillo's home, for example, is located in a 'barranca' and was damaged during Hurricane María.
