Updated Jul 2, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

The Puerto Rico women's national basketball team has begun training for the Centrobasket tournament, which will take place from July 12 to 18 in Managua, Nicaragua. Coach Gerardo 'Jerry' Batista will evaluate the team during the first days of training to define the official roster. The team is aiming for its fifth consecutive title in the tournament.

Batista announced a pre-selection of 15 players, including Pamela Rosado, Arella Guirantes, Tayra Meléndez, and Imani McGee. The Centrobasket tournament will feature eight teams divided into two groups, with Puerto Rico in Group B alongside El Salvador, Guyana, and the US Virgin Islands. Batista plans to use the tournament as preparation for the 2026 FIBA World Cup in Germany, and will decide on the final roster after the Centrobasket.

Puerto Rico has won the last four editions of the tournament, and Batista considers it the most important regional competition.
