According to the latest update from the U.S. Drought Monitor, published by Drought.gov with data valid as of June 30, 2026, 40.9% of Puerto Rico remains under moderate or severe drought conditions. The report indicates that 35.0% of the territory is experiencing moderate drought (D1) and 5.9% is experiencing severe drought (D2).
Additionally, 41.8% of the island has abnormally dry conditions (D0), while 18.3% does not have drought conditions. The areas with severe drought are concentrated in the southern part of Puerto Rico, while moderate drought affects much of the eastern and central parts of the island. The U.S.
Drought Monitor is prepared by the National Drought Mitigation Center, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and NASA, and serves as a reference for tracking drought conditions and their effects on water resources and agriculture.
