The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico (OCPR) and the Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in San Juan signed a memorandum of understanding in June to strengthen collaborative efforts in combating money laundering and financial fraud on the island. According to Comptroller Carmen Vega Fournier and HSI's interim special agent in charge, Yariel Ramos, this alliance will facilitate the investigation process of these crimes.

Vega Fournier stated that the partnership will allow for greater cooperation in information exchange, specialized investigation development, and joint strategy implementation to combat and prevent financial crimes that directly affect government resources and public trust. Ramos noted that the agreement represents a firm step towards greater interagency integration, and that HSI San Juan is committed to aggressively pursuing money laundering and financial fraud activities as part of the Department of Homeland Security's mission.
