Puerto Rico to Play for 5th-8th Place in FIBA U17 World Cup After Quarterfinal Loss

The United States confirmed its status as a favorite to win the FIBA U17 World Cup by defeating Puerto Rico 149-82 in the quarterfinals. The US team achieved the highest offensive production in the tournament's history, with 64.4% of their field goal attempts (56 of 87) and 45 assists. Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje led the US attack with 31 points and 16 rebounds.

Puerto Rico, which had reached the quarterfinals for the first time in its history, struggled to contain the US team's offensive pace. Dwight Gaines was the top scorer for Puerto Rico with 24 points, including seven three-pointers. Despite the loss, Puerto Rico achieved its best performance in a FIBA U17 World Cup, finishing among the top eight teams in the world.
