A man wanted by authorities was shot and a sergeant with the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DCR) was injured Wednesday during a shootout as agents served an arrest warrant at a condominium in Santurce. According to preliminary police information, officers from the Barrio Obrero precinct were alerted in the morning to gunfire at the Plaza Inmaculada condominium on Avenida Juan Ponce de León. Police said DCR Arrest Unit personnel, supported by agents from the Police Bureau of Special Arrests and Extraditions, were on site to execute an arrest warrant against an individual whose identity has not been disclosed.
During the operation, authorities reportedly opened fire after coming under gunfire while carrying out the warrant. The wanted man was shot in one shoulder and later surrendered and was taken into custody; he was transported to a nearby hospital, and his condition is currently unknown. A DCR sergeant was also injured during the incident; police did not specify the extent of his injuries but described his condition as stable.
Authorities have not yet disclosed who the warrant targeted or what crime the individual was wanted for.
