Swap Party Gives New Life to Over 300 Pieces of Second-Hand Clothing in Aibonito

Updated Jul 9, 2026 · via El Nuevo Día

The 'Swap Party' event, organized by the Aibonito project Bastidor, gave new life to over 300 pieces of second-hand clothing. Participants brought up to five items to exchange, which were evaluated for condition and then made available for others to claim. The event, which takes place once a year, aimed to reduce waste by promoting a circular economy.

This year, 65 people participated, exchanging 147 pounds of textiles that would have otherwise been discarded. The event also included workshops on 'creative mending' to repair or alter clothing, as well as a cocktail party with reusable tableware and jazz music. Sandrimar Aponte Maldonado, founder of Bastidor, explained that the goal is to encourage the reuse and recycling of clothing, rather than discarding it.

The event challenges the traditional linear consumption model and promotes sustainability.
