AAA Adjusts Operations to Improve Water Pressure in San Juan Metro Area

Updated Jul 11, 2026 · via Primera Hora

Two days after the Carraízo dam resumed operations following improvement works, the Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (AAA) reported an upward trend in water pressure readings. AAA Executive President Luis Reinaldo González Delgado said the agency continues making operational adjustments to improve pressure in San Juan, Carolina and Loíza as the Sergio Cuevas Filtration Plant gradually recovers. He noted some sectors may still experience low pressure, intermittent service or interruptions, with recovery varying by network location, elevation and water demand, while AAA works toward maintaining pressures around 30 psi for optimal service.

González Delgado said data show the system continuing to recover, though some customers still lack adequate service, and AAA will keep monitoring and adjusting. Saturday morning data showed a general pressure increase at monitored points in Ocean Park, Isla Verde and Piñones. Between 10:30 a.m.

Friday and 10:50 a.m. Saturday, pressure in front of El Tomate restaurant rose from 15.7 to 30 psi; at Casa Cuba from 0 to 11.5 psi; near the Isla Verde Cemetery from 5 to 10 psi; and on Tartak Street from 0 to 11 psi. The Booster San Juan pumping station's latest reading reached 34.31 psi.
