Charges Filed Against Two Individuals for Alleged Elder Abuse in Las Marías

Karen Rodríguez Rojas, 32, and Feliberto Ruiz Vargas, 39, have been charged in connection with the alleged abuse of Rodríguez Rojas' mother, Ada Rojas Santiago, 67, in the Maravilla neighborhood of Las Marías on July 9. According to the investigation, Rodríguez Rojas allegedly physically assaulted her mother and choked her, while Ruiz Vargas is accused of failing to intervene to protect the victim. Rodríguez Rojas was arrested and brought before Judge Luis Padilla Galeano, who set a $5,000 bail.

After failing to post bail, she was taken to the Bayamón Correctional Institution. Charges against Ruiz Vargas were filed in absentia, and a $50,000 bail was set. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 24, 2026.

Additionally, Ruiz Vargas' probation for a previous aggravated illegal appropriation charge was revoked.
