A preliminary magnitude 4.5 earthquake was recorded on Tuesday north of the Dominican Republic, according to the National Meteorology Service (SNM). The event does not pose a tsunami threat to Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, or the British Virgin Islands.
The earthquake occurred at 11:20 am, approximately 136 miles northwest of Mona Island. The SNM issued an informational bulletin to authorities, media, and the public to rule out any tsunami risk related to the seismic event.
The agency confirmed that the earthquake does not generate a tsunami threat for the region, and no hazardous waves or significant sea level fluctuations are expected.
