Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (Sagrado) and the nonprofit Agenda Ciudadana have formed a partnership to promote civic education, sustainable development and community leadership in Puerto Rico. Under the agreement, 15 Sagrado faculty members and 15 nonfaculty employees will receive free access to Agenda Ciudadana's professional development program, "Educación Ciudadana para un País Solidario y Sostenible." The program aims to strengthen skills such as conflict management, communication, collaboration and emotional competencies among leaders and professionals working on social and community issues.
The organizations said the initiative responds to social challenges in Puerto Rico, including violence, inequality, declining trust in institutions and the weakening of essential services, which affect communities and the organizations serving them, many of which operate with limited resources and face high levels of workplace burnout. The partnership is meant to support leaders in sustainable development, urban planning, community development and active citizenship, with the goal of expanding educational opportunities tied to social impact and strengthening Puerto Rico's civic and community networks.
Agenda Ciudadana is described as a nonprofit that promotes participatory democracy and civic engagement, working with community groups, schools, private organizations and public entities on proposals related to education, health, security and economic development.
