Parents Demand Education Secretary Reinstate Lajas Montessori School Principal

Parents and community members are demanding that Puerto Rico Education Secretary Eliezer Ramos Parés reconsider his decision not to renew the contract of Dr. Carla González Cobo, principal of the Alejandro Tapia y Rivera school, a public Montessori secondary school in La Parguera, Lajas.

The school is known for its marine sciences focus, supported by organizations including Sea Grant, CARICOOS, Para La Naturaleza, and the Marine Sciences Department of the University of Puerto Rico's Mayagüez Campus. After learning González Cobo's contract would end on June 30, the Movimiento de Acción Comunitaria de la Parguera sent a letter to Secretary Ramos Parés signed by 52 parents, students, and community members, requesting a meeting to discuss reinstating her.
