Governor Jenniffer González and Public Buildings Authority (AEP) executive director Félix Lasalle Toro announced a $2.3 million allocation to 18 municipalities for rehabilitating parking areas at public schools and Police stations. Each municipality received between $115,000 and $130,333. The first phase includes Aguadilla, Bayamón, Cabo Rojo, Corozal, Florida, Juncos, Lajas, Las Marías, Manatí, Orocovis, Patillas, San Germán, San Lorenzo, San Sebastián, Vega Alta, Villalba, Yabucoa and Yauco.

González said the funds address long-deteriorated parking lots used by teachers, principals and school staff, and will also improve conditions at Police stations. The money was assigned through corporate agreements between each municipality and the AEP; municipalities selected which facilities to repair and must submit a report to AEP within 30 days of completing the work. Per La Fortaleza, projects must use high-quality, durable asphalt and comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) specifications.

Lasalle Toro said many school and police structures need continuous maintenance due to heavy use, calling the funding "unprecedented" for this type of work and stating AEP will continue identifying needs and resources to address them.
