The Chamber of Food Marketing, Industry and Distribution (MIDA) and its member companies donated 24,774 pounds of food and other products to the Puerto Rico Food Bank in 2026, surpassing the previous year's total of 17,593 pounds. The products were collected during the MIDA Conference & Food Show 2026 in June.
MIDA's executive vice president, Manuel Reyes-Alfonso, stated that the food sector has a strong sense of social responsibility and that the contribution demonstrates a commitment to Puerto Rico and those in need. Félix Aponte-López, chair of MIDA's board of directors, highlighted the partnership between businesses and nonprofit organizations to assist families.
Mari Jo Laborde, president and CEO of the Puerto Rico Food Bank, said the 2026 collection was the largest received through the annual event and thanked MIDA and participating companies for their support. MIDA's member companies also donate thousands of pounds of products to the Food Bank throughout the year as part of a partnership to reduce food waste and support families facing food insecurity.
