The Criollos de Caguas announced on November 6, 2025, that former NBA player Maurice 'Moe' Harkless would debut in the 2026 Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) season. However, Harkless never played for the team, despite their strong performance with a 22-12 record. According to John Herrero, the team's representative, Harkless began training on his own but suffered setbacks and didn't feel ready to compete.
Harkless, 33, was selected by the Criollos in the second round of the 2025 draft and has visited the island several times. He has not played since the 2023-24 G-League season due to a hip operation. Herrero understands that Harkless's incorporation would have added a new dimension to the team but ruled out his debut during the current postseason.
The plan is for Harkless to potentially join the team in 2027. The Criollos will play against the Cangrejeros de Santurce on Saturday in the fifth game of the semifinal series, which is currently tied 2-2. Harkless played in the NBA for a decade, with career averages of 6.9 points and 3.5 rebounds in 691 games.
