Four Puerto Rico entrepreneurs, Alejandro Meléndez, Josean Merced, Francisco Villavicencio, and Emilio Ramos, have launched Malamaña, a golf apparel brand that combines Caribbean-inspired designs with functional clothing. With an initial investment of $60,000, the company aims to serve golfers seeking less traditional styles without sacrificing comfort or functionality.
The founders, with backgrounds in engineering, architecture, marketing, and business development, identified an opportunity to create an authentic brand that reflects the energy and personality of the Caribbean. Malamaña's first collection draws on Caribbean geography, biodiversity, and culture, with designs such as La Pichincho, La Tarraya, and La Pirúa.
The company plans to focus on online sales, building a customer community, and introducing new designs, with an initial focus on men's apparel and plans to develop a women's line and additional products.
